Honors Humanities Art History
Seniors may elect to take this course as one of 3 components of their Humanities courses. The class meets 3 days per week for the full year. It consists of a chronological survey of the history of Western art and architecture beginning with the ancient Greeks and moving forward through history to the 20th century. Cultural and religious context is emphasized, since art, as an alternate form of communication, reflects the responses of enaissanceits creators to life around them.
Students study and discuss vocabulary, readings from the text Art in Focus, articles from additional sources, and images of the art and architecture produced during the various time periods. They come to realize that they are capable of understanding the works because human responses to various situations are still very similar in this day and age.
Grades are assessed with quizzes, tests, research homework and reports.
